The interior of the LEAF is designed to maximize comfort for drivers and passengers alike. Numerous storage spaces are available throughout the cabin, including under-seat bins in front of each seat, a center console with room for two smartphones, regular door pockets on both sides of the vehicle, deep door armrests with integrated bottle holders in all four doors and an innovative one-piece cargo floor that offers more than 25% additional trunk space.
When the LEAF's shift lever is placed in "D", power from the 24-module lithium-ion battery mounted under the vehicle floor flows to a large AC synchronous motor located between the front wheels, where it drives the front wheels. In this configuration, called "front wheel drive", traction control and other electronic components of Nissan's unique EV drivetrain are used to precisely control the power delivered to the wheels.
Energy is delivered back to the battery through regenerative braking, which uses unique controls that help maximize both energy recovery and stability during deceleration.
